Research: A Validation Tool for
Professionals
Research has found its way into
every part of business these days with an increasing demand for
information of every sort. Professionals skilled in using online
resources, such as the internet and fee-based databases, now command
high fees for the information they retrieve. Information brokers,
those who seek information for others as a profession, can uniquely
capture data the typical internet user cannot and target content
quicker with higher quality results.
Conversely, when someone thinks of
the word ‘research’, most of us think about a school or university
task; a student researches a topic for a paper or a professor tries
to validate a theory; a doctor searches for a cure to an illness or
an inventor patents a new piece of technology. All of these
information seekers must do some type of research, some more
important than others.
Certainly, a hierarchy of research
exists from very high level data to more simple information
gathering. Obviously, a team of doctors working on a cure for a
disease require high-end research, where a child’s school project
reaches only the lower end. Much research, however, falls somewhere
in between on the spectrum of high to low quality data. Researchers
must be able to discern both based on the task.
Whether we are a writer, an
entrepreneur, a doctor or an inventor, research demands seeking
quality sources for the purpose intended. Writers may add
additional resources to increase a book’s usefulness or add a few
anecdotes. A background check or financials may be vital for a small
business, or a university could add historical data for reader
interest. No matter what project or task a professional dedicates
their attention, eventually, the key will be research.
